Dutch Treat is a classic American diner on 3rd Street in downtown Lynden: a small room, a counter, booths, and coffee. Despite the name, there is nothing Dutch about the food at all, as reviewers are quick to point out. It is omelets, chicken fried steak, burgers, and shakes, served the way diners have always served them.

“If you are looking for a place where the locals go, you found it here.”

It is a small room, about forty seats when it is packed, and reviewers describe it the same way year after year: a classic old-style diner with a hometown feel, the kind of place that has not chased a trend in a long while. Farmers talk weather in the corner. The coffee keeps coming.

The praise that comes up most is not fancy. It is good food at low prices, friendly service, and a room that feels like breakfast used to.

Downtown Lynden, a block off Front Street. Lynden is a Dutch-heritage town; the diner itself is as American as they come, and that is exactly how the regulars like it.
